Q: We are hosting an annual instructor training next Monday and one of the sessions will be with instructors and their program manager brainstorming to improve and increase program areas. What are the best questions to ask according to your research and expertise? I have come up with the ones below, but want to make sure I have not left out an important question. Thank you for your help.
1. What class(es) should we offer that we are not currently offering?
2. What does your average student look like in your class in regards to age, sex, education level etc.?
3. What do you need more of from us as program managers – how can we serve you better?
4. What is the hardest position at your place of employment to fill?
A: Here are some other questions you should consider: •What feedback do you get from instructors about their overall experience with us (registration, customer service, etc.) •What courses do they think participants are interested in bases on their experiences with their classes? •What is their biggest frustration in teaching with your program? •What is the most important thing you do to provide support for them as instructors? •Do they feel they have adequate support for production of materials, handouts, etc? •Do teachers feel that they would benefit from workshops or training on how to teach (adults) (children), etc.? •Do teachers feel that they have adequate preparation for organizing their course and materials? •Do instructors need assistance with creating a syllabus or course outline? •Do instructors feel that policies and procedures are clear? •Do they know who to contact in case of an emergency or an unexpected problem? •What would make them feel valued? How would they like to be rewarded, other than by their pay. These are among the top questions we have gathered from our members. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
