Declaring a Class "Dead"

Q: Our department needs clarification on when it is appropriate to make a class “dead.”

It was my understanding that when a course is not advertised and there are no enrollments, then we can make the class dead instead of cancelling it which does not impact our cancellation rates.

When course has too few enrollments or no enrollments and has been advertised then we cancel the course.

Could you please clarify this procedure for me?

A: You are correct. If you do not advertise a course, and there are no enrollments, this does not count as a cancellation. If you print a course description in your brochure, and there are insufficient registrations to run the course, then you count it as a cancellation. Thanks for Asking!
