Course Prices

Q: I would like information on raising the price for my nursing program. We only raise the tuition every 3 years and I am considering going from $9900.00 to $10900.00. Looking for some expert advice. The program is fully enrolled but this year that didn’t happen as quickly as in the past.

A: Raising prices is not necessarily a negative as far as enrollments, especially since your courses are filling. The fact that the course filled more slowly than in the past might be a concern, but not a reason to avoid raising your prices. In general, it is better to raise prices more frequently and in smaller increments than to introduce a major price jump every 3 years. Given that you may not have this option LERN would advise that you move forward with a price increase. Your proposed increase of $1000 is close to the 10% maximum jump LERN recommends, so you are in the ballpark with that number. Given that you are going over a major price break--$10,000 you may see some decline in enrollments initially. However, you could afford to see more than a 20% decline in your enrollments and still come out with a higher income than you are generating with your current fee level. LERN does suggest avoiding fees that end in "00" so you might want to set your fee at $10,898 rather than $10,900.
