Q: We need to categorize our programs/classes, and use those category names to build new web pages and restructure the information on our website.
Have you conducted a survey, or have any best-practice advice on selecting category names that are clearly understood by the public?
What I mean is, rather than have a web page for a program like Human Resources Development, maybe we call this Employability Skills Training or Career Exploration, or something more immediately understood by the public.
A: We have no specific research on this issue. However, there are some guidelines you might use to select names:
1. Identify needs/goals of your target audience. Select terms that will resonate with your specific target audience.
2. Are there "hot-buttons" that will motivate your audience such as (Increasing Job Productivity, or Demential Care Training for CNA's). Identifying a particular market segment in the title will increase attendance.
3. Use variations on standard terms to try to make your programs stand out.
We also have "tips for terrific titles" that are appropriate for individual courses. Let me know if you would like to receive this report.
