The White House is the Right House
Last week a professor said in a New York Times video that he would, if he could, increase foreign STEM workers in the United States to fill our shortage of STEM jobs. He then asked how to fill our shortage of STEM jobs of Michael Kratsios, head of the White House Office of Science and Technology.
Mr. Kratsios explained that we as a nation need our own American youth to fill the shortage of STEM jobs for the sake of our economy, national defense, prosperity and quality of life. Kratsios noted we have to "prepare Americans to go into these fields" and reported that 20 years ago 70% of computer science students were American youth, and 30% foreign. Today, he said, 70% of those computer science students are foreign. Mr. Kratsios is right. The White House is right. We hope Mr. Kratsios allows us to suggest the no-cost solution to eliminating our STEM shortage and resume economic prosperity for the country.
He was interviewed by Tyler Cohen, a professor of economics at George Mason University. We respectfully submit to Dr. Cohen that the correct response is fundamental economics of the 21st century. Photo: Michael Kratsios.
