Using Buzzwords

Q: My department of Pratt Institute is seeking assistance with buzzword development.

A: I would like to come at your question from two angles.

First, understand that “buzzwords” are words that will resonate with your customers, so there is no generic list of them – they come from your internal research. In order to create a list of buzzwords for your program and your customers, you need to review evaluation forms, testimonials, and customer feedback like surveys to see what comments or “buzzwords” and phrases appear repeatedly (more than once).  Anything that repeats (words like convenient, comprehensive, or whatever customers like about your program) is usually a “buzzword” or “buzz-phrase” for your program and will be meaningful to customers.  Buzzwords are what help identify the specific strengths of your program – what people like best about it.

Second, LERN does offer a list of Powerful Verbs that can help in the development of effective course descriptions and marketing text. Using verbs helps to create a sense of energy and achievement.  I have attached the list for your reference.
