Q: We are trying to develop mission & vision statements for our Continuing Education side of the house. Does LERN have a list of examples from various community colleges around the nation?
Also, what are these units calling themselves, i.e. Continuing Education, Lifelong Learning, etc.
Are they dividing it by Professional Development and Personal Enrichment? Are there some successful examples of this model you could point us toward?
A: LERN does not have a list of mission statements, but we could ask our members to send them to us. This would take a little while, but if you would like us to do that, we will be happy to. Programs are calling themselves by many names, Lifelong Learning, Continuing Education, etc. are the most common.
The most successful programs do differentiate between professional development and enrichment. In higher education, it is harder to find good models, because many have eliminated enrichment programming. we will research this for you, and will send you information some programs that are doing this.
