Membership Advantage Program

Q: We here at Johnson County Community College have been discussing ideas for a Membership Advantage Program. We currently offer something that is really just a discount program. Are there any CE units out there that have a successful membership program? Or maybe even simpler, is there a common set of criteria to define advantages that can be given to members, price to join, etc.

A: ·        Membership normally works if there is a financial benefit…say a discount on course fees OR you pay a flat fee for the year and can attend everything you want for free.
·        Normally the cost of membership is paid off within two or three classes. So if someone plans on attending at least two classes a year, they cover membership cost in two or at least three classes.
·        Normally membership groups are not affinity groups. The only reason to become a member may be reduced fees and not participation in other group activities.
·        The membership may also be able to provide other unique benefits not available somewhere else.
·        The CC may have a partnership with other organizations where special discounts would be available…something like coupons/discounts for materials (culinary classes for example).
