Q: Are there pros/cons to having course enrollment counts on a web site? We display the class limit and the current enrollment count on each course description page. The site is connected to our registration system and the count is in real time and updated as registrations are captured.
A: There are some good reasons for posting your enrollments online:
It lets people know if the course is still open
It tells people how quickly the class is filling
It lets people who are interested in the course know if they need to register soon to make sure the course runs
It is good customer service
The only negative is if enrollments are low and the course in near the start date. It could discourage people from signing up if they think the course is not going to run. However, this is far outweighed by the positives of listing the enrollments.
