Tom Parfitt of the University of Richmond at the big LERN annual conference in New Orleans, shown here with Leslie Kowalczyk of UGotClass. Tom presented an all-new practical tips session on promoting UGotClass.
Tom Parfitt and Christina Draper both worked on promoting UGotClass at the University of Richmond School of Professional and Continuing Studies this past year. The University of Richmond was so successful with UGotClass they had over 200 registrations and made $25,000. So you know what they did worked. Here’s their top tips from a packed session they did at the big LERN annual conference recently.
Say ‘Online’ Not LERN or UGotClass
No need to confuse your customers with a new acronym or organization, like LERN or UGotClass. Instead, in your promotion in the class description simply say “Online.” The word is short, simple and there’s no confusing language about another organization. You customers trust you. They don’t need to know about UGotClass or LERN.
If you want to state the relationship, do it once in your print brochure or once on your website, indicating that you partner with UGotClass, a project of LERN, the largest continuing education association in the world. But there’s no need to repeat our name.
Send Testimonials To Others in the Same Company
When you get a testimonial from a student who is an employee of a large organization, like a company, nonprofit or big law or tax firm, send the testimonial to others in the organization, especially the head of training and/or human relations.
Keep Spreadsheet of Skills Employers Need
Ask the head of training or human relations in a large organization for the skills they want their employees to have or develop. Then put them in a spreadsheet.
When you see a new UGotClass course or certificate providing one of the skills in your spreadsheet, notify the head of training and/or human relations at those companies identifying a need for that skill, and encourage them to send people to you.
Offer a Discount When Your F2F Course is Cancelled
When you have to cancel an in-person course, offer those students a discount to take a UGotClass course or certificate in a related subject area. That saves you from giving a full refund, and it may save something worth even more - - those customers. It’s worth taking a little less percentage of the income to both keep the money and profit, and more importantly, keep the customer.
