Minimize punishment for behavior that does not hurt others.
You have to be a parent or mentor. You should not ignore major offenses. But try to focus on the big picture, the big errors, and let some of the minor slights slide.
Boys are punished all the time, especially for minor offenses in school. Those behaviors that are punished in school are too often gender-based male biological, neurological and hormonal in nature, and are present before birth.
