Q: I have a question regarding privacy law. Could Community Ed share our email list with our instructors who requested them? How about with another department of the college?
A: FERPA protects information that is part of a student’s educational record. It does not protect information that would normally be considered “directory” information. Even so, most institutions have their own policies relating to the implementation of FERPA requirements, and it is really essential to make sure one has a thorough of the institution’s requirements, as these are often more restrictive than FERPA
